Propane FAQ
How much does it cost to refill a 20 lb. cylinder?
A standard 20 lb. grill cylinder can hold around 4.6 gallons of propane. Refilling your cylinder with us will always be a better deal than exchanging it. The price may vary based on the local propane prices.
Do you fill RV’s?
We do not refill Autogas used to power the RV engine. However, we do refill the propane tanks mounted beneath the RV as long as they are designated for propane, have a data plate specifying such use, and pass a visual inspection.
When does a Propane cylinder expire?
A propane cylinder must be requalified 12 years after the original date of manufacture. Once a propane cylinder is requalified, if the requalification letter is “E,” then it does not expire until 5 years after the date that it was stamped. If the requalification letter is “S,” then it does not expire until 10 years after the date that it was stamped.
What is the coldest temperature at which you can dispense Propane?
We will provide propane as long as the equipment allows. We usually don’t have any issues unless the temperatures drop below freezing. When temperatures are at the extremes, we recommend calling the store before coming to make sure the equipment is working properly.
Does the propane cylinder have to be removed from my vehicle or trailer?
To be properly grounded, propane cylinders must always be removed from the vehicle or trailer. Additionally, all cylinders must be filled on an industrial scale to prevent overfilling. We understand that this may be inconvenient at times, but we prioritize the safety of our customers and team members, and we will always require that the cylinder is filled on the scale.
Do you requalify Propane Cylinders?
No. Requalifying requires additional licensing that we do not have. If necessary, we can have that completed through our propane vendor for a $30.00 charge.
Can you fill Propane during inclement weather?
It depends on whether lightning is observed within 10 miles of the store. If so, we must wait at least 30 minutes before dispensing.
How many Propane cylinders can I have filled at one time?
The Department of Transportation sets regulations for transporting propane in vehicles. For closed-bodied vehicles, the limit is 90 pounds of propane in total, with no single cylinder holding more than 45 pounds. It’s worth noting that a grill cylinder is often referred to as a “20lb cylinder” because it can hold 20 lbs. Of propane, but after filling, it will weigh around 37 lbs. For open-bodied vehicles, the limit is 1,000 lbs. Gross aggregate weight refers to the total weight of the propane-filled cylinder.
Do you fill tanks that were previously purchased from an exchange station?
Certainly! As long as the tank is not expired and passes a visual inspection.
Do you refill Propane cylinders on Site?
Yes, we can fill your tank while you wait.
Can you recycle Propane tanks?
Absolutely! As a service to our customers, we collaborate with our vendors to ensure that old or unusable tanks are disposed of properly. Kindly consult with a store employee before leaving a tank that needs to be recycled on our premises so that we can place it in a safe area.
Can you fill 1 lb. camp stove tanks?
No. We do sell 1 lb. camp stove tanks prefilled within the store.
Do you purge tanks?
No. If necessary, we can have that completed through our propane vendor for a $30.00 charge.
Can you fill a 100 lb. cylinder?
Yes, we fill cylinders up to 100 lbs. As long as they are not expired and pass a visual inspection. However, 100 lb. Cylinders may NOT travel in an enclosed vehicle. If a 100 lb. cylinder is brought in an enclosed vehicle, we are not able to fill it. 100 lb. Cylinders must also always travel in an upright position because of the location of the relief valve.
Can I drop off my Propane tanks to be filled and picked up at a later time?
No. Filled cylinders are not allowed to remain on site unless they are kept in a cage. LL does not have the equipment to store tanks for extended periods.
